The 178th winner of the St Leger, held on Saturday 11th September 1954 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Never Say Die, a chestnut colt by Nasrullah out of Singing Grass, owned by Mr Robert Sterling Clark. A field of 17 runners contested the race which was worth £19,000. (Equivalent to £486,400 in 2017)
